No clear favourites for Champions Trophy, says Ashwin

India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is upbeat about India’s chances in the Champions Trophy to be played in England from June 6. Ashwin believes that there  are many good teams in the fray and whichever team adapts quickly will emerge triumphant.
“There are quite a few good teams in the short tournament and it is not going to be easy for anyone. It all boils down to how quickly one adapts to the conditions. We have a good side,’’ said Ashwin.
The wily offie states that the Indian team has good depth in its batting and believes that bowlers will have a huge task at hand. “It is a different format, I believe that bowling will be the key where the emphasis will be on getting early wickets. In batting we have good depth,’’ explained Ashwin. Skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, Ravindra Jadeja are all in great form, having helped Super Kings enter the IPL final.
“It good to see all them in good form. It is always good to carry some momentum into a big tournament. I am sure they will continue the good show,’’ opined Ashwin.
Ashwin was not at his best in IPL-6, when compared to the previous edition. “For me it was not always about wickets. My job was to bowl economically and check the economy rate. Plus because of the options we had, many a time I did not complete my quota of overs. But I am confident of doing well in England’’ he said.
On the dropped catch of Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard in the IPL final: “It (ball) just popped up I did not have any time to react.’’
